The China asymmetry
China is Pakistan’s largest supplier by far — around $17 billion in machinery, electronics, chemicals and steel — yet buys barely $1 billion of Pakistani goods. No single relationship matters more to the trade deficit.
The American premium
The US is Pakistan’s best customer: nearly $6 billion in textiles and apparel — roughly double any other single market — and a buyer of higher-margin finished goods rather than raw materials.
